PE
Intent
At Sharp Lane Primary School, we recognise the vital role that Physical Activity, Physical Education and sport plays in every aspect of daily life. We provide a safe, supportive and inclusive environment where children can flourish through a wide range of physical activities. PE is essential in supporting our pupils’ physical, emotional, social, moral and spiritual development.
Our intent is for pupils to be ASPIRATIONAL by engaging in a variety of high-quality PE lessons and extra-curricular clubs throughout their time at Sharp Lane. Through planned competitions with our Leeds Well School Partnership we have the opportunity to attend a variety of events which inspire, engage or compete alongside other schools, allowing the children to represent Sharp Lane with pride. Our House Teams are named after local sports champions and pupils have been inspired through house assemblies and virtual interviews with some of these athletes and other athletes who embody aspiration and dedication.
We want our children to BELIEVE in themselves by embracing challenges and striving to reach higher levels of athletic ability. We encourage all pupils to understand how to use their bodies, equipment and apparatus safely and creatively in order to achieve their personal goals. Every child is given the opportunity to enjoy being physically active, maintain a healthy lifestyle and build self-esteem through participation in sport.
Our pupils COMMIT to their learning by applying their knowledge and skills in both practice and competition. They develop resilience, teamwork and perseverance through games and reflection, understanding that improvement in sport requires time, effort and determination.
We also encourage children to DISCOVER by exploring a wide variety of sports and physical activities. Once skills are taught and mastered, pupils are given opportunities to apply them across different contexts and games, deepening their understanding and enjoyment of physical activity.
