At Sharp Lane Primary School we work hard to ensure that pupils have a sociable and healthy lunchtime experience. We offer a variety of healthy meal choices as part of our partnership with Leeds City Council and are happy to cater for the needs of individuals that are vegetarian or have specific dietary requirements.

If you are claiming benefits with the Council, it is important to tell them when your child starts Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 at Primary School, especially if you believe that you would also qualify for Free School Meals under means-tested criteria. Registering your entitlement will earn school £1320 per year in Government funding called the Pupil Premium.

If a free school meal award is made, your child will also be entitled to free school milk if they are over the age of 5 and altogether you could save up to £485 per child, per year.

Transitional Protection rules brought in from 1^st April 2018, means that whilst Universal Credit is being rolled out to families in Leeds, once a child gets a free school meal award, they can keep the award right through until they leave Primary School. This will apply even if your earnings rise above the threshold or if you stop being eligible for Universal Credit.

DO I QUALIFY FOR HELP?

You can claim Free School Meals for any child who normally lives with you and who is classed as being under your parental care. To get Free School Meals you must receive one of the following benefits:

• Universal Credit (and your net combined household income is less than £7,400 a year after tax)
• Income Support, Pension Guarantee Credit, Income-based Job Seekers Allowance.
• Income-related Employment Support Allowance
• Child Tax Credit Only (With No Working Tax Credit) and your Annual Taxable Income does not exceed £16,190.
