History

Our Intent in History

At Sharp Lane Primary School, we recognise the importance of HISTORY in every aspect of daily life.

Our intent is for our pupils to have high ASPIRATIONS by inspiring pupils' curiosity about the past and teaching them a range of historical skills which they can apply now and in their future journey through school and beyond.

We want our children to BELIEVE in themselves providing children with opportunities to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments and develop perspectives and judgement. At Sharp Lane Primary School, we believe that teaching History is important in broadening children’s horizons, challenging preconceived ideas and developing life skills in order to prepare them for the future.

Our children COMMIT themselves to their learning by developing their knowledge, skills and understanding of the world, our country, culture and local community.

We allow our children to explore and DISCOVER critically about history and communicate confidently in styles appropriate to a range of audiences. Through discovery, children at Sharp Lane Primary School will develop a passion for history and an enthusiastic engagement in learning, which develops their sense of curiosity about the past and their understanding of how and why people interpret the past in different ways.
