Science

Our Intent in Science

At Sharp Lane Primary School, we recognise the importance of SCIENCE in every aspect of daily life.

We believe science encompasses the acquisition of knowledge, concepts, skills and positive attitudes. Throughout the programmes of study, the children will acquire and develop the key knowledge that has been identified within each unit and across each year group.

Our intent is for our pupils to have high ASPIRATIONS within Science through a range of different means. These include but are not limited to: Linking learning to jobs within the scientific field, through career talks, to learn new knowledge and skills which can be applied to their everyday lives and have a greater understanding of the world around them.

We want our children to BELIEVE in themselves as scientists. We want the children to believe that they can work within a scientific field, to solve problems through scientific enquiry and develop their curiosity.

Our children COMMIT themselves to their learning by applying their prior knowledge and skills to all of their science work through various stages of scientific inquiry. Furtherly, we want children to be committed to developing and sharing their own knowledge of Science.

Finally, we allow our children many opportunities to explore and DISCOVER by using our five types of enquiry in Science when planning, carrying out, observing and evaluating investigations.
