VE day activities
As we are celebrating VE day on Friday, we thought it would be nice for you to do some activities around that this week. Below are lots of different activities. Some will need printing but some you can do on paper. We hope you all have a lovely day on Friday if you are joining in with the celebrations and having a picnic in your garden. We will be joining in the celebrations with our neighbours.
Hope you all had a lovely weekend.
We have a new task for this week. Seeing as we can't see you at the moment, we would like you to write us a letter about your favourite day so far. It might be a special day (I know there have been a few birthdays), or just a day you spent doing something you have really enjoyed. You may have done something with your family or on your own. We would love to hear about it.
Try to remember all the features of a letter, and if you need to check what they are on the internet, you can do.
We will look forward to reading all of these letters when we are back in school.
Keep checking the website for new tasks to complete and we will have already/will be ringing you all just to check in and see how you are doing.
Hopefully see you all soon.
Miss McMaster, Mr McFarlane & Mr Crawford
Hi guys, hope you are staying safe. More from us Year 5 teachers. We have attached a little competition set by the Brownlee Brothers. Have a look at the document and have a go! Please keep sending your work to the Facebook page so we can see what you are producing. Stay safe and hope to see you soon. Mr McFarlane, Miss McMaster and Mr Crawford
We hope you are all enjoying the lovely weather.
Below is the Summer Journey Learning Log. There are lots of activities for you to complete and then bring into school to show to everyone. It would be great if you could complete at least some of these.
Stay safe and we hope to see you soon.

Summer Learning Log with lots of activity ideas for you to complete at home.
Hi guys, Hope you had a lovely Easter and enjoyed lots of Easter Eggs (I know I did!!!) Your next task is to plan a ‘Back to School party’ for us when we get back. You have a budget of £30 to spend (£1 per child in your class). You need to think about: • Food • Drink • Decorations • Cutlery I have taken some pictures of examples of items you may want to include that are below. You can do this either online on the supermarket websites or written down. Please keep sending your work in to the school Facebook page so us teachers can see all the good work you have been doing. Stay safe and fingers crossed we’ll see you soon. Mr McFarlane, Miss McMaster and Mr Crawford
We would like to wish all of Year 5 and your families a very happy Easter. Please enjoy this time and eat lots of chocolate, we will be.
Whilst you are enjoying the holidays, it would be really great if you could design your own Easter egg hunt. You might want to add some clues as to where you have hidden the eggs or draw a map to follow. It is completely up to you. It would be lovely if you could then go on this Easter egg hunt with your families and upload pictures and/or your clues and maps to the Facebook page, so we can see what you've been doing and how much fun you are having.
Have a smashing Easter!
Miss McMaster, Mr McFarlane & Mr Crawford

WOW! We have been busy on Our Journey To BATTLE so far this term!
In our topic lessons, we have been historians and have used different sources of information to find out all about WW2. We started by looking at which period of time in history WW2 happened, who was involved and why it started. Further to this, we have spent time learning all about the Blitz and understanding why evacuation happened and debating the positives and negatives of this. We even had a soldier come in to visit us and talk about his job and share parts of his uniform!
In Maths we have been very busy consolidating our understanding of place value and the 4 operations. We have continued to develop our understanding and skills of our formal written methods using larger numbers now we are in Year 5. We have used all of this knowledge and skills and applied it to problem solving and reasoning challenges to deepen our learning further.
In English we have written some fantastic narratives with detailed setting and character descriptions, we have written some amazing non-chronological reports all about the Blitz and are currently writing a diary entry based on being evacuated during the war.
In addition to all of the above, Pratchett Class have been improving their swimming skills and Morpurgo Class have been learning and developing their musical talents with our specialist music teacher every Friday. All Year 5 classes will spend a term doing swimming and music throughout the year (Spring Term tbc).
