Year 4 Autumn 2020

Year 4 Homework
Times Tables
The expectation is that by the end of Year 4 all children will know all of their times tables facts and associated division facts up to the 12 times table. The children will have a times tables test every Friday. TT Rockstars is a great resource for the children to use. They can also use a more traditional paper and pencil method or quick fire questions.
Spellings
Spelling tests will take place on a Friday. New spellings will be handed out each Friday. Please take time to help your child to learn their spellings each week. To start with we will be learning spellings from the Year 3/4 list.
Reading
Children need to read at home at least 3 times each week. In Year 4 they need to read to an adult and depending on the size of the book they may need to read it more than once. Please make sure that their Reading Record book is signed and dated and a comment is made about their reading.
Thank you for your help
Year 4 Team
English
We have been writing a warning tale based on 'The Iron Man'. We have focused on using a range of techniques to describe our characters and settings and time adverbials to show that time is passing on. We followed the story structure and set our work out in paragraphs
Maths
We have been adding and subtracting pairs of four digit numbers using the column method. We have then used the inverse to check our answers. We are developing our reasoning skills by spotting and explaining 'mistakes' made by our teachers!
Journey
On our journey inside the human body, we have learnt about the different types of teeth and their functions. We have worked as a dentist to put all the teeth in the correct place on our diagrams of the mouth and labelled them with their names and functions
Welcome to Year 4!
This half term, we are going on a journey inside the human body. We will be looking at the skeleton, teeth and the digestive system.
In Maths, we will be focusing on place value and times tables.
We will be reading the book 'The Iron Man' by Ted Hughes and writing character descriptions.
PE will be on a Wednesday for all Year 4 classes. Children should come to school wearing their PE kit on this day. They will stay in PE kit all day and do not need to bring their uniform.
