Working together to capture and nurture the imaginations of young minds

Writing

Writing at Sharp Lane Primary School

At Sharp Lane Primary School we believe that writing should be an interesting and engaging process. One which allows pupils to use their imaginations through exciting narrative, and show off their brilliant subject knowledge through non-fiction writing.

As part of our curriculum design, staff are encouraged to build in as many cross-curricular writing opportunities as possible. Staff will use class novels, topic lessons and many other media to ensure that pupils are 'hooked' into the writing process.

Throughout their time at Sharp Lane Primary School, pupils are encouraged to consolidate basic skills. These fundamental aspects of writing (neat presentation, spelling etc...) are extremely important for pupils to progress and we offer specific taught sessions in these areas to ensure that pupils are given support where needed.

To promote writing in school, weekly celebration assemblies are used. We champion a writer of the week and this child will be given a certificate as part of our Friday assembly. In addition to this, children's writing plays a huge part in shaping displays around school. Our aim this year it to celebrate the pupils' work in the wider community.
