Sharp Lane take reading very seriously and we have invested heavily in our provision for reading. Our well stocked library, situated in the centre of school and staffed by a member of the PTA 3 days-a-week, is an important and embedded part of our curriculum. Pupils are encouraged to use this resource as part of their learning and here they can change their reading book from the Oxford Reading Tree Scheme and their Accelerated Reader Book. Pupils engagement with reading is good and they are helped in this by our lunchtime supervisor team who read with pupils daily in addition to class teachers and teaching assistants.
To ensure that the library is an inviting space in which pupils want to learn, we have worked closely with a graphic designer. This has seen us have door signs, a mural and Dewey decimal system posters created. These are displayed in the library and can be viewed below.
