Spring Newsletter Reception Thursday 1st April 2021
We have been so proud of the Reception children this term as we know as it has been difficult. We have been impressed with their resilience and determination towards their learning. We have two main focuses for summer term. Firstly, we will continue to work on the children’s PSED (Personal, Social and Emotional development). The children need to be able to take turns, play games and explain how they are feeling using ‘because…’.
Our other focus will be writing. In the summer term we will be developing the children’s resilience to “have a go,” use helpful words as well as their phonics knowledge. We understand that not all children may be at this level yet, however it is vital they mark-make using pictures and develop their fine motor skills before Year 1.
This term we have been focusing on children’s well-being at home and in school. We have explored texts such as The Colour Monster and The Ugly Duckling. We have focused on talk time where the children have been able to discuss their feelings openly with adults, and use language where they can explain how they are feeling. We have also been looking at the Easter story as well as completing some Easter egg challenges.
During this term the Reception team have been spending time with the children in provision to assess their learning. As part of our recovery curriculum we will use this information to plan for the Summer term. We have included a ‘top ten tips’ you can do over Easter and we have included a list of what we expect Reception children should be able to do now.
