The children have been making bread like in our focus story 'The Little Red Hen'. They then made sandwiches for a Teddy Bears picnic which is part of our learning journey.

The children have been planning a party. There first job was to make a shopping list of items they wanted for a party. They then went on a walking trip up to Asda. The children really enjoyed choosing their items and paying for them at the self service checkouts.
Our Spring 1 text focus is 'Paddington's Post'. We have been learning all about Peru, South America and London. We have enjoyed making marmalade sandwiches and packing Paddington's suitcase for his adventures in London. We have learn the names of different types of bears and know that Paddington is a spectacled bear!
Our Focus text- The Snowman written by Raymond Briggs. We have looked at the first two pages where James got out of bed and noticed the snow so ran to make a snowman. The children were able to use their prediction skills to rehearse what they thought James was asking his Mum and what he was planning to do in the snow. We had so much fun acting out the start of a story and sharing our own experiences about what we like to do when it snows. After acting out the start of the story the children wrote a list of what they would need to make a snowman.
We are super proud of our confidence, resilience and memory skills learning our nativity songs, lines and actions to tell the story of when Jesus was born! It was lovely that our parents are carers could come and watch our amazing performance.
'Poppies' is a BBC Children's remembrance animation. The animation sees The Great War experienced by the animal inhabitants of a WW1 battlefield.
The children in reception watched this. The children asked lots of questions about the video and were able to talk about the bunny's feelings throughout the video. We talked about Anderson Shelters and what they would take with them. We created our own air raid shelters in class.
This term our theme is we are performers.
We will be looking at a the stories Leaf Man, The Christmas Story (Our Nativity) and The Snowman.
This term our theme is 'We are family'.
Over the first half term our primary focus is the mental well-being of the children and their relationships with their peers and key workers. We will settle the children through focused snack time sessions where we will support the children to speak in full sentences, express and understand their emotions as well as developing their sense of responsibility within the class as well as their community. The children will become more outgoing with new people and show more confidence in social situation. We want the children to be able to understand how others might be feeling and find their own solutions to conflict.
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.”— Dr. Seuss, “I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!”
At Sharp Lane we prioritise the importance of early reading. This first half term, our core texts are based around equality, families and love. We promote the love of reading through 'Drawing Club' and daily reading sessions where we share a repeated story. This allows the children to act out, retell the story and rehearse repeated phrases and become fully immersed in the key texts.
Drawing club encouraging children to become authors and illustrators. Representing their thoughts and understanding through drawing. During this session there is a key focus on communication and language as well as fine motor skills.
