Autumn 2 Week 2

This week in Maths we have been looking at patterns.  We have been talking about whether they are repeated patterns or not.  We then had a go at creating our own repeated pattern using 2 or three objects.  We used classroom objects such as Numicon, bottle tops, pens, pegs and counting cubes. We also had a go at making a repeating pattern using musical instrument , actions and shapes.

Challenge:  Can you create a repeating pattern using objects you can find at home?  Can you draw it?

In Phonics we have been continuing to learn new sounds.  This week we have learnt the sound ‘ck’ and ‘e’.  We are all doing such brilliant reading and writing and we are very proud to share this achievement with the whole class.

Challenge:  Can you revisit and identify all the sounds in your new sound book and have a go at writing them too?

We also celebrated Diwali this week.  We watched the story of Rama and Sita and watched a video of a girl named Jessica who was getting ready and celebrating Diwali.  We looked at diva lamps and spoke about what we thought they were made out off.  We also tried Barfi, a traditional Diwali sweet.  Some of us didn’t like it but all tried it! You can see our Diwali celebration pictures below.

Autumn 2 Week 1

This week we have really enjoyed being back at school.  We heard all about everyone half term and the exciting things they had been doing.

In Maths this week we have been investigating 1 more and 1 less.  We have used number tracks, bead strings and fingers to explore this.  We found that by adding 1 more the numbers got bigger and by finding 1 less the numbers got smaller.

Challenge:  Can you find any numbers around your house and see if you can find out 1 more or 1 less?

In Phonics we have been learning the new sounds, g, o, c and k.  We have been practising recognising all the sounds we have learnt so far as well as blending them to read them and segmenting them in order to write them.

Challenge:  Can you read these words?  sat, mat, pop, dog, sit, ink, man, pin.

In Maths we have been recognising numbers to 10 and matching them to the correct numcion.  We have worked hard to read lots of different examples of the same number and really enjoy our new number study area.  We are currently looking at the number 4.  In our number study area we can see lots of number 4s along with lots of different ways 4 can be made up.

Challenge:  Can you draw 4 objects for our number study area?  Can you write the number 4?

This week we another note from Captain Jake asking us to go on an adventure!  We had to make a pirate passport and then build a big ship outside so we could sail out to sea.  It was so much fun! We didn't find George but he did return the treasure chest back to us.

Next week we are taking part in a competition called The Big Draw.  We will be looking at drawing faces and figure using lots of different materials and resources.

Autumn 1 Week 5

This week we have been very busy! We created a story about Captain Jake and a little boy called George.  We thought George had shared the treasure with Captain Jake but Captain Jake sent us a letter which told us he had not! George had actually stolen the treasure and Captains Jake’s ship.  We decided to help by looking for the treasure chest.  We looked very carefully all around the garden.  We asked Louis if she had seen anyone but she hadn’t.  Nevan spotted footprints so we knew George must have been there.  After searching and searching Danielius and Amy were the ones to spot the treasure chest.  We wrote a letter back to Captain Jake explaining how we had found the treasure and asked if he was going to share it.  He sent a reply saying he was very happy that we had helped him and not only was he sharing the sweets in the chest he was giving us some jewels and gold nuggets!
