Unfortunately, the photocopiers in school were out of action today so we have been unable to print the homework.
Over half term, we would like your child to;
-read to an adult at least 3 times, spending times discussing the book and answering/asking questions (Please record in reading records)
-continue to practise times tables in a random order as well as the corresponding division facts (Times Table Rockstars is great for this)
-Relax. Rest. Be ready on Monday 20th February for another very busy half term ;-)
Happy Half Term

Friday 13th January 2017
In English this week we have been learning our new talk 4 write story, ‘The Storm’. The children have learnt this quickly and have added actions to our story. We have used this to develop our guided reading skills also and have looked at the meaning of individual words, creating a glossary. Our focus for the week has been descriptive writing, using powerful verbs and adjectives and the effect these have on the reader.
This week in maths we have moved continued with multiplication. We have looked at how we can use a variety of resources to help support our learning as well as recording multiplication sums more formally in grid method. Towards the end of this week, we moved on to division. We have started by looking at dividing by sharing using equipment to help show this. Next week we will move towards looking at written methods for division.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
In English this week we have begun a new Talk 4 Writing unit. Our first week has been focused on poetry at a poem called ‘The Storm’. We have been studying this poem in guided reading to understand its meaning and structure. In English we finished the week by having a go at writing a rhyming poem about a ferocious storm. We have had some excellent vocabulary within our work this week.
This week in maths we have moved onto multiplication. We started the week by discussing what multiplication is, where we might use it in and out of school and the vocabulary associated with it. Following this we learnt the grid method and have had lots of time to practise solving various multiplication sums using this method.
Each child has been given their target times tables to work this half term in class. They were all given a copy of these to take home on Thursday to also practise at home. Please encourage your children to do this as it is a vital skill the children must be secure in by the end of year 4.
The children have been very excited this week to start their learning on the water cycle. Take a look in our classroom windows to see what we have been up to!
We look forward to another exciting and bust week next week!
Friday 9th December 2016
In English this week, we have finished writing our new class story of ‘The Papaya that spoke’. Our story was called, ‘The avocado that spoke!’ After this we all innovated our own version and some of us have published them. We performed our class story to parents and read them our own stories that we wrote. They really enjoyed listening to them. We finished the week doing a HOT write to show all of the new story skills we have learnt this half term. Mrs Watkins was really impressed with our stories.

This week in Pattaya class we have been doing Christmas perimeter challenges. We started the week understanding what perimeter is and how to calculate perimeter. We went on to measure the perimeter of different shapes. Some of us started to use formula such as L x 4 when finding the perimeter of a square or L x 2 + W x 2 when finding the perimeter of a rectangle.
