Back to School
Well done Kanchanaburi for a great first couple to days back at school. I hope everyone enjoyed the half term and managed to relax in the sunshine!
What will we be learning about in the first 2 weeks?
In Maths lessons we are learning about Decimals and how they are related to fractions. So far this week we have been learning about tenths. For the rest of the week, we will be learning about hundredths and then next week we will be learning to compare, order and round decimals.
We are having 30 minute daily Spelling lessons to boost our understanding of spelling rules and patterns. This week we are focussing on spelling words with a variety of prefixes, understanding how the meaning of words is changed and applying the rules. Next week, we will be doing exactly the same but focussing on suffixes!
In English lessons we will be continuing to learn how to write a Non Chronological Report, using Pie Corbet's Talk for Writing techniques. We will be writing a class Non Chronological Report all about Romans and then you will be using the skills you learn in class to write your own. To help, why not find out even mnore about the Romans for your chosen sub-headings so tha your report is particularly interesting for your reader! What could your 'fascinating fact' about the Romans be?
Sound is our new Science Topic this half term. We will be exploring how sounds are made, looking at different sound sources and finding various patterns between different aspects of sound, e.g. volume and strength. If you would like to do some home research about how sound is made, it would be much welcomed :)
We hope you have had a lovely Easter break and have enjoyed the first week back at school. Well done to the whole class for hard work!
Unfortunately, the photocopiers in school were out of action today so we have been unable to print the homework.
Over half term, we would like your child to;
-read to an adult at least 3 times, spending times discussing the book and answering/asking questions (Please record in reading records)
-continue to practise times tables in a random order as well as the corresponding division facts (Times Table Rockstars is great for this)
-Relax. Rest. Be ready on Monday 20th February for another very busy half term ;-)
Happy Half Term
Year 4 Team
THANKYOU & WELL DONE
Thank you for those of you who came to Kanchanaburi's class assembly! It was a fantastic turnout and your support is much appreciated.
Well done to the children in our class - you worked really hard to prepare and practise for the assembly. It went very well. You were all very confident and knew your roles extremely well. You should be very proud:)
Week ending 20th January 2017
We have been starting our Innovation stage of our current 'Talk for Writing' unit, where we have been doing a Shared Write, together as a class, creating a warning tale based upon, 'The Caravan', which we have learnt over the past few weeks. Then, each child has started to write their own warning tale, using their own and 'magpie-ing' some class ideas.
So far the children have written their opening paragraphs to their own warning tales and their Build Up paragaraph, where they have described the dangerous setting using powerful verbs, adjectives, similes and alliteration.
Keep up the good work next week when we continue with this work!

We would like to thank the parents who came to our Performance session, where we sung the Christmas carols that we have been learning and read our versions of 'The Papaya That Spoke' story. The children appreciated you coming and enjoyed showing you some of what we have been doing in class.
Thank you all for your support this past term. We hope you have a lovely and relaxing Christmas break.
Year 3 and 4 Christmas Carousel
Year 3 and 4 enjoyed making their own Christmas deorations, which they can take home to hang on their Christmas trees. We had lots of fun!
In our PSHE lessons we have been learning what the word 'grateful' means. We have been learning and reflacting upon how other people in the world, who are less fortunate than ourselves, will be spending Chrsitmas. We then reflected upon our own lives and the things we have to be grateful for. We then wrote Gratitude poems. Please take a look! Miss Lunn is very proud of the class.
Anti Bullying Week
Kanchanaburi class have worked really well this past couple of weeks, learning of the difference bewteen 'mean', 'bullying' and 'rude'. They have carried out lots of role play, helping them to know how to react in possible situations, they have created positive behaviour flow charts to manage difficult situations and they have also done some fantastic anti-bullying homework. Well done children and carers/ parents at home, who have helped the children to write these poems. They are very thought-provoking and the children have enjoyed sharing them with the whole class.
Takeover Day - Thursday 24th November
A big well done to Isabel Crow, in Year 2, for taking over the role of Miss Lunn for the day. The class really enjoyed having you teach them and help Miss Lunn out for the day. You worked really hard, from managing the class behaviour, to supervising at play time and carrying out the times table test. It is a shame it is only Takeover Day once a year!
Big Draw Week 2016!
Today we have drawn some shaded diagrams of our teeth - permanent (adult) and baby teeth. Take a look.. We clearly have some artists in the making in our class!:)
How Small Is Our World?
Well done to everyone who did their homework and brought in their family trees. We enjoyed learning about your families. We found it really interesting locating where different members form our families are from on a map of the world and on a map of the United Kingdom - Take a look! Can you spot your family?
Marking and Feedback Policies
We have created our own class Marking policy and Non-Negotiables Policy. Remember what the symbols stand for so you can respond to the teacher's feedback as best possible.
Here are some of the fantastic learning logs some of you completed a few weeks ago!
Friday 14th October
English - A Tale of Fear
Kanchanaburi class have started to participate in a Shared Write of The Nightmare Man, a Pie Corbett tale of fear, which they have learnt and analysed. The class have written their own Openings and Build Ups for their own stories. They have changed the main character, the settings and the character's fear from the original story. I am very proud of the children's TALK (a class focus) and discussions around the story. The class are beginning to write exciting stories of their own, which are creating suspense very well. I am impressed with everyone's use of similes and powerful verbs! I look forward to finding out what your main characters problems in your stories this week!
Maths - Rounding
The class have been learning to round 3, 4 and 5 digit numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000 this past week. We will continue with this during the following week, before moving onto counting in negative numbers. The class are showing reasoning skills very well. Everyone is explaining in full sentences how they know what a particular number rounds to and why. Keep up the good work! Some great growth mindsets!
PE days are Wednesday and Thursday. Please bring your full PE kit. We may be doing indoor or outdoor PE, depending on the weather that day. Also, please ensure earrings are taken out that morning or children are sent to school with plasters, for health and safety reasons.
Welcome Back Kanchanaburi!
I hope you have all had a fantastic first week back at school and in Year 4! Thank you for a great week all of you.
We had a great time in the school garden with Lois making our own vegetable people and animals, using our garden produce. Take a look!
