Welcome to Class Columbus.

We have chosen to name our class after Christopher Columbus, the famous explorer.

We all want to be like explorers in our class because explorers have 5 things in common.
1.    They are determined to succeed.
2.    They are ready to try to overcome difficult and unknown challenges.
3.    They are great at persevering.
4.    They focus on a goal they want to achieve.
5.    They are good at working as a team.

Meet the team

Columbus Day

Columbus Day 1

Our class has decided to celebrate Columbus Day on Thursday 12th October. We will be conducting more research on the prestigious explorer we decided to name our class after. In celebration, the children can come to school on Thursday dressed up as Columbus, a sailor or an explorer. We will be taking part in a quiz, writing instructions on how to be a fantastic explorer we will also be taking part in atlas work and of course singing songs about Columbus. As part of our enterprise project, we will be making Columbus themed buns and drinks, which will be on sale outside our classroom on Friday after school at 2pm.

Thank you

Our first topic is Ancient Egypt.

Have a look at the links below and start looking in to the exciting topic.

Time to learn the class poem.

Handwriting is very important. Why not try and gain a pen license this year?

In Year 4 the children need to learn their times tables up to 12. A fun way to learn is through song. Below are a few songs we use in class.

Six Times Table Song! (Cover of CHEERLEADER by OMI)

Mr. DeMaio and friends cover the summer hit, Cheerleader by OMI, in this fun multiplication video that can be used to help you memorize your six times table! Have fun learning the 6's while singing along to your favorite song!

Eight Times Table Song (Cover of All About That Bass by Meghan Trainor)

Mr. DeMaio and friends cover All About That Bass by Meghan Trainor in this fun multiplication video that can be used to help you memorize your eight times table! Have fun learning the 8's while singing along to your favorite song!

Reading books:
Reading Records will be checked  weekly and books will be changed on a Tuesday. Children can read any book from school or home and this can be logged in their record. Rewards can be achieved if your child reads regularly at home!

Spellings will be handed out as needed. We will teach spelling three times a week and have spelling tests on spellings they have been taught in class.

Homework will be sent home every Thursday and handed in every Tuesday. This may be English, Topic or Maths depending  on the needs of the children each week.
