We are all so excited to begin another fantastic term at Sharp Lane. Class 2LM are an inquisitive, enthusiastic bunch who love to learn. Our class teachers are Mrs Leaver and Mrs Gale. Miss Kaye is our class teaching assistant and Miss Wilson teaches us art.
This year, we are looking forward to learning about Dinosaurs, Pirates, Martin Luther King and much more! We have already brought in some wonderful holiday learning which will be displayed in our shared learning area.

Thank you to all of the parents that supported the children in their Sports day events this morning. The children all enjoyed taking part in events, running the obstacle course and then finishing the day on the bouncy castles. A big well done to Ellie, Evie, Taylor and Josh who competed in Sharp Lane's got talent with a gymnastics routine and won the KS1 round!

'The Amazing Thing' came to visit us today. We didn't know what it was at first, but as the story unfolded we discovered it was a creature that wanted to change all of the traditional stories by the Brothers Grimm. This included putting a kiss in the Frog Prince and cutting open the wolf's tummy in Little Red Riding Hood. We all really enjoyed the Lempen Puppet theatre and can't wait to write our own stories now!

Asda came in to visit us today and we all tried some new and exotic fruits, including Sharon fruit, Physalis and strawberry flavoured grapes! We didn't like them all but we all tried something new.

Half of Year 2 went for a tour around the City Varieties Music Hall and the Grand Theatre today. We got to learn about the history of the theatre, see back stage and sing a song on stage! At the Grand Theatre we took part in a workshop where we had to use props in different and unusual ways.

We would like to say a big thank you to all the family and friends that came to support the children on Enterprise afternoon. The children in Year 2 sold 'Grow your own' boxes, which contained everything you need to grown your own courgettes. They made seed packets and instructions, recipe cards with ideas on how to use your courgettes and decorated the boxes. The children also learnt a lot about money and the world of work.

This is not just a trip, this is an M&S trip. The children enjoyed learning all about how food was manufactured in the past compared to now and how many miles their food travels to get on their plate. When we looked around the exhibition we saw food, clothes and artefacts from the past.

A big thank you to all the Dads and Granddads that came to 'Men behaving Daddly'. The children had fun building towers from spaghetti and marshmallows, creating pirate shanties and sharing their favourite story.

Today we went to Nesfield Lodge to sing and read to the elderly people. We sang the world's greatest reach, for the stars and sunshine in my heart. We all chose our favourite story to read, Riley enjoyed reading to Ned. What a fantastic day we had a Nesfied lodge!

Today we made a human clock it was great, we did it with white boards and ourselves. We know o'clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to. Some of us even know 24 hour clock!
Friday 20th May
We went on a minibeast hunt in the garden and made a tally chart of the micro habitats we found. We followed this up with a food chain. What a fantastic minibeast hunt!

Today we had the woodwind trio come to sharp lane, they played an Aladdin song. We enjoyed listening to the different music they played.

We had a great day today at Tropical World. We saw butterflies, monkeys and meerkats but one of our favourite things was the dark cave, where we saw bats. We had lunch in Roundhay park and even got to play in the park.

It has been a very busy day today and it kick started with a coaching session from the Leeds Rhinos. We had great fun learning how to grip the ball and run with it and can't wait for our next session. We have all worked really hard on our class assembly and would like to thank everybody that came to watch us. We took a look back at our year so far in Year 2 starting with Dinosaurs all the way to minibeasts and finishing with one of our favourite dances.
Wednesday 20th April
We have all come back ready to learn and the sun is finally shining. Today we have been outside using different equipment to solve multiplication and division problems. Some of us challenged ourselves to use a blank number line and we found out about remainders.

A really big thank you to everybody that has been growing their beans at home, you have all done fantastically! Mehetabel had planted hers in a pot and it has grown into a very healthy plant. Usman's shoot has grown really tall, it was 40cms when we measured it.

We have had a very busy week this week! We have had our annual Easter Egg competition which was one my Jacob Barber-Richards and his race car egg. Cerys and Jacob went to Asda for their Raving Reader reward for 100 ticks and got their magazines. We spent an afternoon in the garden raking the ground, sowing wild flower seeds and making bee houses. Hopefully lots of flowers will grow and the attract the bees in to the garden. In the pond Lois took us to see the frogspawn, we are going back next week to see if they have turned in to tadpoles.

Today it was Sport relief and we all came in our sports clothes. We have done a mile run where we went under the cargo net, through ladders, over the tyres and hurdles. It was great fun! For science week we found out what it would be like to be Tim Peake living on the space station.

We had great fun going to the field covered in snow.Some of us made a huge snowman,
we thought it was the biggest in the world.Mr garden needed to help with the snowman and he came out with us.

We learnt about the fraction quarter with counters, we did lot's of tricky questions that took about ten minutes with a partner.Silver was nearly as tricky as gold! We have learnt a lot this week!

We are all so excited because we all became scientists by helping the Mad Hatter, although we are not done yet. Luckily he turned out to be a kind Mad Hatter which made it easier for us to do the job he gave us.

Now we have a new topic about L.S. Lowry. He was born on the 1st of November in 1876. His full name is Laurence Stephen Lowry. If you look carefully at his pictures there is a dog with five legs, someone pointed it out but he said that is just the way it will stay.
Friday 29th January
On Australia day we tasted Australian foods but the vegemite was too salty.
Mr Garden visited us and showed a lot of things from Australia, including a ostrich egg that sadly broke.Then we all did a travel blog. A travel blog is when you where you have been, so we pretended we had been to Australia. We also made didgeridoo's using colourful paper and patterns.
Friday 22nd January
On Monday we met a rugby coach and played exciting rugby games. Then, we did a survey to find out where Miss Wilson could visit when she went to Australia. After that, we did the life cycle of Tiddalick. The next day we changed the story of Tiddalick using drama. Finally, we did maths multiplication challenges. Come back next week to find all about Australia day!

We went bird watching with Lois and saw lots of seagulls,also we had a scrumptious hot chocolate.

This week in maths we have been investigating shape. We have been making 3D shapes and learning their properties, sorting 2D shapes, finding lines of symmetry and continuing shape patterns. We have really enjoyed all of these activities!

We went to sing at Sharp Lane Community Centre today which was fantastic! We sang all out songs from our Christmas production as well as learning some especially for them.
Tuesday 1st December
We are learning to apply our addition and subtraction skills by using money in a shop, playing money games and working out how to make either side of an equals balance. You can help by playing games like this at home.
Monday 30th November
Today we have enjoyed jumping and stepping in tens and ones to help us add and subtract on blank number lines. We are beginning to become very confident with this but need some help counting forward and backward in 10's to make sure we get the correct answer.

We have had a wonderful time supporting 'Children in need' today. We have dressed up, designed outfits for Pudsey Bear to make him a superhero and learnt about where our donations go.

We have received a letter from the council in London. They are building a new shopping centre and one of their diggers has discovered a box. They need our help to investigate it further. Please look at the picture carefully and help us identify where it came from, who buried and why.

We are really enjoying learning about Martin Luther King. Our focus this week was learn about key events in his life and put them into chronological order. We loved using role play to act them out.

We have had fun learning a discussion text about whether or not Jack should go to prison for stealing from the giant. We have made up actions, drawn it outside and rewritten it as a newspaper.
We have begun our first science unit in which we will learn all about habitats. Today, we explored our beautiful gardens searching things which we then categorized as living, once living or never alive.
