Indoor P.E - Tuesday
Outdoor P.E - Friday
Please make sure your child brings their P.E kit (both indoor and outdoor) in on Monday and leaves it in school until Friday so that they have it available if timetables need to change for any reason. Thank you.
Homework - This will be given out on Friday to be due in the following Thursday.
Spelling/Mental Maths - Spellings and/or mental maths will be given out on Monday for a test on the Friday.

Today was Sharp Lane Sports Day......without the sports! Due to the terrible British weather our races have been postponed until next week. However, we all still managed to come to school in our brightest sports and carnival gear to take part in lots of different activities. We were lucky enough to learn some new football skills, try out some story yoga, make pasta necklaces and design our own sports t-shirts. We all had a fantastic day and despite the rain it was still good fun!

A massive thank you to everyone who came to support us this afternoon during our Enterprise! We enjoyed creating a 'grow your own courgette' kit and even included some tasty ideas for you to try at home. We had a great time showing you all our Maypole dancing that we had been working hard on.

A great thanks to all you dads who came to take part in some activities with the children. There were some fantastic towers during our spaghetti and marshmallow competition and some great pirate songs using a variety of musical instruments. The children thoroughly enjoyed sharing their current learning with you all.

This week in Maths we have been completing a carousel of activities. We have looked at problem solving which involved finding the difference and working out how many sheep and hens were on a farm. We also looked more closely at 3D shapes and tried to explain why certain structures were stable or not. We also practised using jugs to measure out water for our minibeasts and answer questions based on comparisons of these.

We have had a very busy week this week!
We started the week by learning about the Buddhist festival Vesak which celebrates the life of the Buddha. We compared this celebration to our celebrations on our birthdays. We then looked at meditation and had a go ourselves. We finished the session by colouring in some mindfulness pictures of minibeasts while listening to relaxing music.

Today we started planning for our report on a disaster at Tropical World. We looked at some examples of reports together then acted out what we thought might happen. There were lots of escaped crocodiles and mischievous monkeys!

This morning we had a great time doing more rugby with our Leeds Rhinos coach. We learned how to kick the ball using the 'grubber kick'. We then got into three teams and had to compete against each other to get the most points for kicking the ball correctly. We even managed to do our practise on the field because it was so sunny!

This afternoon we had lots of fun performing our class assembly. A massive thank you to everyone who came and supported us! We really enjoyed sharing our trip to Tropical World with you and telling you what we have learned about minibeasts so far. We can't wait to find out more!

Today we went on a minibus to Tropical World! When we arrived we went through the butterfly house. The butterflies were very friendly and some landed on our clothes! Next we went in the bird room where there were lots of colourful birds. We enjoyed spending our money in the gift shop so we could take home a memento from the day. We are looking forward to telling you all about our trip in our class assembly on Friday.

Today we were lucky enough with the weather to go outside to do our Maths learning. We started by using hula hoops, bean bags and balls to complete division problems. We then moved onto using chalk and blank number lines to complete division by using repeated subtraction.

Today we went to the garden and Lois gave us the task of finding minibeasts. We all got so excited and called each other over to look at minibeasts! Our job now is to understand what habitat minibeasts like so we can encourage more to come to the garden by building them houses. Maybe you could help us investigate near to where you live.

Today we all came to school dressed in our favourite sports gear to raise money for Sport Relief. In the afternoon we even had a go at running an obstacle course so that we could be part of the action!

It's British Science Week! This year the theme is all about space. To take part, Year 2 found out just what it would take to be a good astronaut. We talked about the dexterity needed as well as the physical fitness required. We had a go at completing different challenges wearing different types of gloves to see how much harder simple activities can become. After this we put our results into a bar chart and it was clear to see that oven gloves were the hardest to use!

Today Year 2 were lucky enough to have a visit from an author! Saviour Pirotta told us all about his disgusting Granny ahead of his new book series coming out. He told some very funny stories and even showed us the secret to creating a fantastic story. Together we created a story that had lots of little problems and solutions. Ask your child what our story was about at home!

Today we had a surprise when we came into school, we went out onto the field to build lots of snowmen! Some of us managed to build huge snowmen and needed a little help to lift the different body parts into position. By the end most of us had freezing toes, but we all had great fun!

Today was World Book Day! We all came to school dressed as our favourite characters. In the afternoon we read some stories and also designed our new reading corner as a class based on all the homework we did! We ended up with a fantastic design based on a jungle theme.

This afternoon we did some fun dancing at the Valentine's Disco and we were luck enough to be treated to some juice and sweets. It was an exciting afternoon and we were tired afterwards!

Today we had a very busy but fun afternoon! We tried new foods from Australia, we made didgeridoos, we were finding out information about Australian animals and we wrote a travel blog for Mr Garden. Ask your child at home if they can tell you something about Australia.

Today has been a very busy day! In English we have been acting out our new text Tiddalick the Frog, which is a Dreamtime story. Ask your child to show you at home so they can practise the actions.

Today we had a treat and visited the local library! We enjoyed picking books to take back to school and even had time to read and share some books while we were there. Ask your child what book they chose and why! We also made sure we were sensible when crossing roads and walking on pavements.

In English we explored Aboriginal artwork and listened to some Dreamtime stories. We then created our own dot paintings of the characters in the stories.
In Maths this week we have been busy placing numbers onto blank number lines and investigating odd and even numbers. We used 0-100 number lines, then moved onto number lines with different intervals to deepen our understanding. We also recapped ordering numbers and using the 'greater than' and 'less than' symbols.

Today we got stuck into our new topic and created an animal park! In the coming weeks we will be learning about what animals need to survive so that we can care for them properly in the park. We will also look at the habitat in Australia so that we can create suitable enclosures for our Australian animals.

Today was Christmas Jumper Day. We enjoyed wearing our Christmas jumpers and even got to open our class presents that Santa delivered!

Today was Christmas craft day! All of KS1 went round in their river houses to six different craft classes. We made cards, calendars, decorations, reindeer food and biscuits. Ask your child to show you what they have made, maybe their decorations could even go on the tree!

Today was our Christmas party! We had lots of fun dressed in our party clothes. We started with a big Christmas dinner and we all tried brussel sprouts! Then we had a disco in the hall and played party games in the classroom. We had lots of fun and lots of chocolate!

In Maths we looked at moving around an obstacle course by giving each other directions. We had to use the language quarter turn, half turn, clockwise and anti-clockwise.

Today we have been looking at our SEAL statement for the week ' I can suggest one way we can make our school a healthy school' . We talked as a class about what being healthy meant and how we could be more healthy in what we eat and what we do. We suggested some forms of exercise and did these outside the classroom. We came up with lots of ways to make the school healthier! Just ask us at home!

Just to keep you all informed here is some information about the upcoming week in Year 2.
Tuesday 15th December - Children will need to bring their pyjamas for a Christmas film and popcorn in the afternoon in celebration of getting an average of 95% attendance in Year 2!
Wednesday 16th December - It's Christmas party day! Children will come to school in their party clothes and bring £1.
Thursday 17th December - Christmas craft day. Your child needs to bring a labelled carrier bag for them to place their crafts in to take home.
Friday 18th December - Christmas jumper day and the last day of term.

We have had a fantastic week in Year 2 performing our Christmas production for all the parents. We all enjoyed taking part and did a brilliant job at learning our lines and the songs. We want to thank parents for helping us to learn our parts.

All this week we have been learning to apply our addition and subtraction skills. We have done this by using money in a toy shop, playing money games and understanding the equals sign as a balance. You can help us by playing games like this at home. We have also been consolidating our use of blank number lines by jumping and stepping in tens and ones and transferring this to whiteboards.

Today we imagined what it would have been like during the Great Fire of London for different groups of people. We did this by using role play to put ourselves in the shoes of firefighters, Samuel Pepys, ordinary people and the baker at the moments just after the fire started. We then used our ideas to write a report on the Great Fire of London.

This year's focus for Anti-bullying week was to 'Make a Noise' about bullying. In class we have been discussing what bullying really means and how to tackle it. We then created videos with a star wars theme to really make a noise about bullying! Have a look to see how well we can perform!

Today we all dressed up in our pyjamas, spotty clothes and superhero costumes to help raise money for Children in Need. As a school we managed to raise £830! Thank you to everyone involved.

This week in 2L we have been learning all about time. We did this through matching activities, learning a song and making our own clock. Test us to see if we can remember o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to!

Today we started our new topic 'I have a dream'. We started by looking at segregation in America. To do this some children wore yellow jackets and were not allowed to play or eat with those not wearing them. We then had a discussion about how this made both sides feel and began to link our experience to Martin Luther King, Jr.'s speech.

Today was Roald Dahl Day! We all enjoyed dressing up as our favourite Roald Dahl characters and raising money for the school library.

All this week we have been learning all about measures. We learned how to use a ruler, investigated weights of objects around the classroom and got a bit wet measuring volumes. Our learning was very practical so we could get a sense for measures and written work involved ordering and comparing.

Today we went down to the garden to enhance our Science learning. We have been learning about different habitats, food chains and whether animals are carnivores, herbivores or omnivores. Ask us what these terms mean! This lesson we wanted to investigate all the micro-habitats there are in the garden and record all the living things that live in them.

On our first day back at school we imagined what it would be like to be scientists on an island where dinosaurs have survived extinction. We worked together as a class to create this island out of different materials, labeling features of the island such as waterfalls and volcano.
