We had a lovely time at Meanwood Valley Farm. We went pond dipping and on a minibeast hunt. We had to look really carefully in our nets and in the grass to spot the different creatures. After lunch we got to look around the farm and feed the animals.

Leeds City Varieties!
We had an amazing time at the City Varieties. We learnt all about the history of the theatre as well as getting to visit all the areas of the theatre including backstage in the green room and in the dressing rooms. Our favourite part of the visit was sing Kate Perry "Firework' on the stage!
We have been getting ready for Enterprise Day this week. We decided what we wanted to make, prepared all the fruit and made the fruit kebabs ready to sell. Hope you all enjoyed them!
Red, white and blue day!
As part of the Queen's 90th birthday celebrations we made bunches of flowers for the cleaners within our school. To show that we appreciate the role they play within our school community.
We were lucky this week to see a performance by a wind trio. They played classic music like Bach and Mozart to modern music like Katy Perry's 'firework'. We enjoyed joining in with the words and doing the actions from our dance to it.

This week we went down to the garden in small groups. We needed to make some room for the new strawberry plants so we pulled out the old strawberry plants and the weeds ready to plant the new strawberry plants.We had lots of fun and enjoying being outdoors.
We hope that you have all had a lovely break. This week we had some special visitors from ASDA who made pizzas with the children. The children were very excited and couldn't wait to eat them. In English we have been planning our own versions of the book 'Jim and the beanstalk' and in maths we have focuses on the days of the week and months of the year.
Another big well done to these children who went to Asda this week to get a magazine.

Eggciting Easter egg entries!
Sport Relief 2016
As part of British Science week we chose to investigate the warmest colour. We started off by thinking about how each colour makes us feel. Then we talked about what our favourite colour is and how it makes us feel. Then we melted an ice cube onto different colour card and timed how long it took to melt. The children predicted which colour they thought would be the warmest colour and wrote a sentence to describe what they found out.
As part of our topic on Noah's ark we have been thinking about materials that float and sink. We designed and labelled our boats and then we had a go at making a boat in a small group. We are looking forward to seeing if our boats float or sink.
On Thursday morning we had a visit from the author Saviour Pirotta. He told us lots of interesting stories and we found him rather funny. He then came into our classroom and talked to us about the features of a story and how important it is to have a problem and a solution.
To help us to learn the story Jim and the beanstalk we have been acting out the story. We had lots of fun!
We then ordered the text maps. We checked we had put them in the correct order by retelling the story using them and doing the actions to match.

World book day!

Red day/Valentine's disco
We had a lovely day on red day. In the morning we had a visit to our classroom from Laney the lion. In the afternoon we went into the disco and had lots of fun. We were singing, dancing and playing games. We had the treat of sweets and a drink during the disco to keep our energy levels up.
Safer Internet Day
Today we learnt about how to keep ourselves safe when we are on the Internet. We know never to use our real name and never to give anyone details about where we live or which school we go to. We then wrote a list of the different ways that we can keep ourselves safe.
This week we have been learning to divide. We learnt that the words grouping and sharing mean divide. We made human division sentences.
Healthy Schools week
This week we are thinking about how we can keep our bodies healthy. We are looking at the different food we could eat and thinking about the exercise we could do. As part of trying to do 60 mins exercise a day we have been dancing to Boogie Beebies, jogging around the playground and taking part in a zumba class. We are having lots of fun!
Christingle service at St. Mary's Church
After we had been at the church we enjoyed hot chocolate with marshmallows in it, in the dining hall. It was yummy!
Christmas party day!
We are making the christingles ready to take to St. Mary's church on Friday. Hope to see you all there!
We have learnt the Christmas Story. Here we are acting the story out. We had great fun pretending to be the different characters in the story. We had to practise using our big voices so that everyone could hear us.
Here we are decorating the tree in the hall with the baubles that we have brought in from home.

Year 1 will also be holding a Christingle service at Middleton St. Mary's Church on Friday 18th December at 9.30am. The children will be learning about the meaning of the Christingle and making their own to take to church so we asking for a donation of 50p to cover the costs. We are looking forward to you joining us for this celebration. Don't forget to wear your Christmas jumper!
Today a golf coach came in from Oulton Golf club. We really enjoyed having a go at the different golf activities.
Anti bullying week
This week we have been making a noise about bullying. We had lots of fun making up this song and performing it with instruments.
Children in Need 2015
This week we have been learning to use positional and directional language. We had to move left, right, inside, outside and the we went on to direct the beebots. We had to make sure that our instructions were clear for the beebot to get where we wanted it to go.
Today we followed instructions and made a breadstick sparkler each. We then write a set of instructions to tell other people how to make them aswell.
As part of learning about 2D shapes we went on a shape hunt in the playground and in the garden. It was lots of fun and we found lots of different shapes.

Here we were creating an imaginary setting for Mary Seacole. We had lots of fun drawing her in different places like at the beach, in the shops and in the woods.

We enjoyed using the iPads to challenge other children from around the world. It was good fun!

MathleticsThe children have had lots of fun logging onto Mathletics and designing their own avatar. The children will be bringing their log ins home tonight. Use at home to improve mental maths and look out for homework being set .
Roald Dahl dress up day!
As an introduction into our topic about local heroes, we had a special visitor. We were very excited when a Police Officer came into class today. They talked to us all about their job and we asked lots of questions about how the Police keep us safe and what happens when people are arrested. We also got to try on a Police hat and jacket. It was lots of fun!
